DESIGNING - CREATING - PRODUCING WITH INDUSTRIAL ECOLOGY
After the success of the event Reinventing Entrepreneurship in 2015, the Magnetic Center is back this year with a FAB CAMP. This day rich in interventions and activities is dedicated to Quebec designers, creators and manufacturers. Participants will have the opportunity to explore different paths to shake up their ideas, meet other protagonists and develop their potential for innovation. In particular, employees and employers will have the opportunity to discover tomorrow's trends in Parcours 1... and today's trends like the industrial symbiosis!
INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS FOR WHOM, WHY?
Invited by the Centre Magnétique, the Centre de transfert technologique en écologie industrielle (CTTÉI) will offer a participatory conference on Wednesday, November 9 at 10 a.m. at the Centre Sportif Mégantic. Jennifer PINNA, project industrial symbiosismanager, will discuss, with examples, how symbiosis is a model of economic, industrial and social development to build a truly more circular economy.
A symbiosis is a network of organizations, companies and communities linked together by exchanges of residual materials, water, energy and resources, both tangible and intangible, called synergies. Like ecosystems where flows are constantly circulating, and which are formidable sustainable systems, symbiosis offers organizations an environment conducive to networking. In industrial ecology, there is no such thing as ultimate waste! The study of the metabolism of industrial and consumer systems teaches us that it is rather a question of "leaks", waste and residues. In short, scattered and unexploited resources.
CTTÉI: SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT
It industrial symbiosis creates a new business dynamic based on local sourcing and the exploitation of urban or rural mines. It is a circular - and disruptive - model as opposed to the extract-manufacture-distribute-consumer-dispose model.
Moreover, since its first symbiosis project in 2008, the CTTÉI has been experimenting with approaches to foster its networks of companies linked by synergies. The objective is to extend the life cycle of resources by substituting and pooling flows! In addition, various circular economy strategies increase productivity and the services rendered by resources circulating in the market. In order to use resources sustainably, they must be exploited in a cascade of added value. Function, object, materials, molecules, elements and finally energy. Atoms are rented, borrowed, used ... for the duration of a cycle or use.
A CONFERENCE THAT DOESN'T JUST INVOLVE YOUR EARS!
To succeed in applying this model to our industrial, production and consumption systems, we need to rethink, redesign, reduce, maintain, repair, reuse, remanufacture, recondition, recycle/compose, valorize: enhance.
The CTTÉI is subject to these innovation challenges on a daily basis. How can we transform residual materials into potential resources? Why invest in R&D? How can we replace new materials with costly and uncertain supplies with local deposits and alternative local resources? How to create value? Curious? Why not come and test your ideas and co-create ingenuity?
