On Thursday, May 9, 2024, the City of Sorel-Tracy announced the appointment of Claude Maheux-Picard, General Manager of the Centre de transfert technologique en écologie industrielle (CTTÉI), as Chief Scientific Advisor.
This volunteer role enables the city to benefit from the expertise of Ms. Maheux-Picard, whose long track record as a researcher is a source of pride for the region. It comes in response to the call for interest launched by the Office of the Chief Scientist of Quebec to integrate science at all levels of government.
Claude Maheux-Picard is the first representative of Quebec's academic community to hold this position.
"Municipalities are all showing boldness and creativity in implementing scientific advice in their communities, and Sorel-Tracy stands out in this respect by mobilizing our college network."
Prof. Rémi Quirion, Chief Scientist of Quebec.
Sorel-Tracy mayor Patrick Péloquin also shared his pride.
"It's truly impressive to see the extent to which the scientific expertise of Claude Maheux-Picard and the CTTÉI radiates throughout Quebec. I'm extremely proud that she has agreed to share her advice and knowledge with the city.
Patrick Péloquin, Mayor of Sorel-Tracy
