Horne Foundry: CTTÉI to support independent monitoring committee

On Monday, November 4, 2024, in Rouyn-Noranda, Martine Rioux, Chair of the Independent Vigilance Committee responsible for monitoring the requirements of Glencore's ministerial authorization for the Horne Smelter, announced that she would be calling on the CTTÉI to support the committee members in their work.

On reading the documents submitted by the Horne Foundry, the Committee members realized the complexity of the content and the analytical work to be carried out. That's why they decided to call in chemists and chemical engineers, experts in the circular economy and industrial processes.

Experts from the CTTÉI will work with the committee to fully understand the content of the documents. The independent watchdog committee responsible for monitoring the requirements of Glencore's ministerial authorization for the Horne Smelter 2023-2028 is made up of 10 members, including scientific experts, public and social organizations, an environmental organization, municipal representatives and citizens. Created by the Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP), its mandate is primarily to monitor the requirements, conditions and deadlines of the ministerial authorization.
