Cégep de Sorel-Tracy and CTTÉI launch Symbiose collège

Sorel-Tracy, September 29, 2020 - The Cégep de Sorel-Tracy and the Centre de transfert technologique en écologie industrielle (CTTEI) are launching the Symbiose collège project.

Headed by the Research Chair on Industrial and Territorial Ecology (CREIT), Symbiose will document the metabolism of the Cégep de Sorel-Tracy as part of an action-research approach. During the 2020-2021 academic year, the preliminary phase of inventorying existing practices will make it possible to propose innovative projects for the college community in 2021-2022. The objective is to better understand the social mechanisms of engagement in such projects and to identify the factors on which an organization can act to support a process of mobilization and change in practices related to the circular economy.

"Through College Symbiosis, we hope to support the improvement of our environmental practices, but also create opportunities to engage in projects that ignite teachers, youth and the entire college community. Ultimately, we would also like to better integrate the concepts of the circular economy into the training of students," explains Myriam Beauchesne-Lachapelle. The sociology professor will be responsible for research and project facilitation, under the direction of Julien Beaulieu, holder of the Research Chair on Industrial and Territorial Ecology.

Stéphanie Desmarais, Executive Director of the Cégep de Sorel-Tracy, says that this new "circular economy" model will optimize the use of resources within the training programs and college projects while respecting each stage of their life cycle and reducing their environmental footprint, a mission that a green Cégep like the one in Sorel-Tracy proudly endorses.
